Symi is still the “Sleeping Beauty” among the Dodecanese Islands. The island has the most beautiful harbor in Greece. On either side of a steep-sided fjord rise tier upon tier of houses, some white, some pastel yellow, but virtually all with Neo-Classical pediments – a reminder that 100 years ago this was one of Greece’s most prosperous islands. The spirit of the island remains intact.

Two settlements form the town of Symi: Chorio and Gialos. Pedi, found in the bay of the same name and Nimporios in the bay of the same name, have a few inhabitants.

During the summer, small boats are getting off the port of Gialos for the small, picturesque bays.

The most visited monastery in the south of the island, where around 30 people live and take care of the monastery.
