Trip Itinerary download CULINARY ADVENTURES & CULTURAL EVENTS (Athens, Kalamata, Epidavros/Nafplion, Paros) Day 01 – Wednesday, April 24, 2013 – Athens Guests arrive on individual basis at Athens International airport and transfer to the hotel through out the day. In late afternoon / early evening we will have a welcome dinner to taste the modern tradition at the historical center of Athens. Its cuisine, most royal at the place of origin, is flirting with recipes all from over Greece, with a modern approach, using traditional and healthy products of Mani and Peloponnese. Day 02 – Thursday, April 25, 2013 – Mystras & Kalamata, Peloponnese Early Morning we will depart for Mystras, Peloponnese near Sparta. We will visit the archaeological site of Mystras, the ‘wonder of the Morea’. It was built as an amphitheatre around the fortress erected in 1249 by the prince of Achaia, William of Villehardouin. Reconquered by the Byzantines, then occupied by the Turks and the Venetians, the city was abandoned in 1832, leaving only the breathtaking medieval ruins, standing in a beautiful landscape. We will then continue to the city of Kalamata in Peloponnese. We will have ample time to rest in the afternoon at the hotel. In the evening enjoy a nice local rich dinner in a nice seafront venue outside the hotel. We will have time to rest at the hotel. Afternoon Excursion at Kalamata – Free Time for shopping Day 03 – Friday, April 26, 2013 – Kalamata Morning visit to a local traditional stone mill-oil press and then to a modern one They will show us how they process the corps in a natural way, using the old and traditional stone – mill, without high temperatures or additions. We will continue to a traditional local seafront restaurant in a village southeast of Kalamata on the peninsula of Mani. Here we will experience the local traditional cooking demonstration followed by traditional lunch. We will have time to rest at the hotel. Afternoon Excursion at Kalamata – Free Time for shopping. Day 04 – Saturday, April 27, 2013 – Kalamata In the morning we will visit to a traditional workshop. Experience the process of making the traditional Greek sausages and the “pasto”-cured meat. Continue with a visit to the Archaeological site of ancient Messini. The remains of Ancient Messini are backed by high mountains, dominated by the summit of Mount Ithomi (800 m) on whose lower slopes it was built. We enjoy a traditional local lunch in local tavern in ancient Messini – Ithomi. Day 05 – Sunday, April 28, 2013 – Village of ancient Epidaurus Today we depart Kalamata and continue our tour to Archaeological site of Ancient Epidaurus, famous in the antiquities as a Health Spa (The Healing Place). Here is the sanctuary of Asclepius the God of medicine and a small museum located inside the archaeological site with many interesting findings. We will also visit the impressive ancient Theater of Epidaurus dated back to 3rd century B.C.
